See You Next Tuesday: Collie Cushions, Mulled Cider and Saving Rowans
Welcome to this weeks installment of See You Next Tuesday where the Lazy Oaf team fill you in on the things that have caught our eye or got us talking in the office over the past 7 days. This week we're laughing out loud at Joseph Jacobs invasive videos, adding collie cushions to our wish list and wanting to save our favourite bowling alley in London. 1. INTERNET SENSATIONS: It's getting hot over here. Anyone who is a regular user of Instagram will be growing tired of scrolling through an endless feed of monotonous selfies with people telling you what they're eating for dinner or what mode of public transport they're catching. That is why we're delighted to have comedian Joseph Jacobs, @jacobsjoseph mixing things up with his recent series of selfie videos documenting his day-to-day activities in an unexpected way. Putting on an American accent, Joe gives us a live commentary of him doing things like taking the tube or ordering sushi managing to turns boring situations into snippets of comedy magic. The best thing about the videos are the reactions of the general public when they realise that they're being filmed. If you have a spare 10 minutes today we'd recommend watching the whole lot over at instagram.com/jacobsjoseph 2. WINDOW SHOPPING: Will you be my friend? A couple of weeks ago we headed to Shoreditch store Lik + Neon to check out the latest exhibition to come from Laura Gee Illustration and have been hooked on her work ever since. This week we have particularly fallen in love with her Border Collie Cushion simply reading 'My Friend'. We definitely want to be this guy to be our sofa friend. You can buy this and more of Laura's work over on her Etsy page. 3. FOOD FAVOURITES: Getting mulledy. Christmas is not just about the food, one of the highlights for us are the array of festive drinks on offer. To break the mould, or shall we say mulled, this year we've been ditching snowballs and fruity wine in favour of mulled cider. If you're looking for something quick and simple, we'd recommend topping up on Rekorderlig's Premium Winter Cider that you simply have to warm up and serve with the optional slice of apple. Or, if you're feeling a bit more daring, you could try whipping up some of this icy spicy Mulled Cider Sorbet by Julia M. Usher. Find her recipe and step-by-step guide here. 4. MEDIA MATTERS: Spare a thought for Rowans. We love a bit of bowling here at Lazy Oaf, even if some of us do like to keep the bumpers up for the first few goes. And if there was one place we love to bowl more than anywhere else in London then it has to be the historic and infamous hangout Rowans Ten Pin Bowling in Finsbury Park. We like it there so much that we shot our entire Nasty Gal lookbook and video shoot there amongst the bowling alleys, video games and grabby machines. So when we found out that there are plans to rip down this beautiful establishment we were devastated! Who do they think they are?! Make sure you join us in helping to save Rowans by signing their petition before it gets turned into another Paddy Power or something equally generic.
