At Home With Laura Vandall & Milk The Cat

Not content with just wearing the cartoon world’s most notorious cat, our press team have been prowling the internet for London’s real life answer to Garfield. Who knew he was hiding out in an apartment in Hackney?! To meet our kitty criteria the lucky feline had to have a few very particular traits…lazy, food-obsessed and too damn adorable for words. Ladies and gentlemen meet your new obsession…Milk the Cat , and his super cool mama Laura Vandall. After an initial screaming fit we hung out in Laura’s bedroom to get the low down on what life with a modern day Garfield entails... So tell us about yourself … Hey! I am a stylist and personal shopper, and this is my son Milk. He is a three year old exotic short hair . We are originally from Spain but I moved to London about a year ago. I also have a company called Ghetto Nails, we make nice things. Why the name Milk? Milk, well his full name is actually Mr. Milkshake! Because once when I was on holiday in Ibiza I found a stray kitty. I had a house out there with a pool and plants everywhere, and would find him sitting outside in the sun. He was only a few weeks old, so every morning I went downstairs to see him and feed him milk. So when I finally got my own cat he just had to be called Milk! It was obvious to me, but my boyfriend wasn’t so sure! What does Milk have in common with Garfield? He is quite grumpy, and he’s really lazy. He loves to sleep, he is always sleeping. He loves cheese, all sorts of Italian food. Milk has expensive taste, he loves sushi, but the best thing for him is definitely olives. He goes crazy if he smells me opening a jar of olives, anything salty and he’s all over me. Does he have any bad habits? He’s perfect! No, I mean he’s really sweet but he doesn’t like too many people. Everybody wants to approach him because of his squishy face, you know he’s no normal cat. When my friends come over he is always centre of attention, but he thinks he’s a star, so he gets to pick when he wants company. What does a typical day for Milk involve? Milk likes to be inside forever, it is my dream to take him with me everywhere but it is impossible. Milk spends all his time sleeping, eating and hanging with me , his mum. He sleeps with me in my bed, he puts his face flat into the pillow or by my feet tucked up in a blanket. I think he thinks he’s a little baby, he’s never really been with other animals. If he was a person, who do you imagine him to be? I don’t know, It’s funny because all my friends think he looks my ex boyfriend! We think he would have a huge moustache and a monacle, what do you think Milks favourite item was today? Oh no doubt, definitely the pink beanie! Has he always been so lazy? When he was younger he was playing all the time, right now he’s quite old and lazy. He’s still always hiding but its funny, because when I need his attention I have to shout “mmm sabroso” which is Spanish for “mmm tasty”. I can call out “milk” a thousand times, but as soon as he thinks there is something tasty around he’s there in a second! In my old house the back door used to be left open so he would sneak outside, and one day I lost Milk! I was crying hysterically in the streets, my hair getting all wet from the rain shouting “mmm so tasty!” shaking his cat food box like a crazy cat lady! My friends thought I was mad. So we should all get our very own Garfield right? Yes! My life has changed 100%, he’s my baby. Honestly, I never used to enjoy being on my own, but now Its fine because my home always feels like I have company. Thank you Laura, we love you Milk! We love Lazy Oaf!
