Finding comfortable trousers, which don’t compromise on comfort for style, feels pretty near impossible. But If there’s one thing Lazy Oaf knows, it is how to bridge that gap. So, at the end of last year, we put on our big girl pants and got back into the trouser game. Developed, adjusted and perfected until they were just right. Get to know a little bit more about our signature styles: Bev, Kev and Trev from our Design Manager, Pariss and Product Development Manager, Marc.

Who are the great Bev, Kev and Trev?
Well, Bev, she’s our wide leg, barrel shape that has quickly become a fan favourite at Oaf. Trev has also got a wide leg but is slightly cropped. Then last but not least is Kev, he’s got a straight leg and is based on an old Oaf trouser style from the archives, with some carefully thought through updates.
What were the top considerations when creating the trio?
They need to be truly unisex, we wanted them to be comfortable for all genders which meant the rise needed to be just right. Body types also were a priority, we knew an elasticated waistband with an internal drawcord would allow flexibility so the trousers can grow with the wearer. Of course, creating pieces that would be the foundation for any Lazy look was a pretty important factor too.

What other shapes did we consider?
In our bid to get back to trousers, we looked at an updating of a few different core LO styles. Our Tokyo Pants were one, once a staple style, there were parts of these trousers we knew we could do better. However, wanting to have a style everyone can enjoy, we moved away from this silhouette to create our “Charlie’s Angels” trio.
What was the process of finalising the fit?
We revisited archive blocks as well as some recent favourites with our garment tech. With these, we spoke to our teams to get feedback and start sampling some new measurements for all three blocks. When fitting, we made sure to try each on different sizes, heights and body shapes, in total we had around seven sample stages and in house try-on sessions. There was never a set launch date, this meant we could spend as much time as we needed perfecting the blocks.
How did you choose the initial colours and fabrics?
We knew we wanted to use a heavyweight, 100% cotton twill so these styles are durable for everyday wear. After a trip to our suppliers, we found a fabric that felt universal and yet unique to Oaf. With fabric chosen, we picked colours to launch these styles that sat well with colour stories we were currently offering.
What were the finishing touches?
With our launching fabric chosen and shape nailed, we could now turn our focus to what details we wanted to add. Pockets were an absolute non-negotiable, but to make sure they were practical for everyday use we made them deeper. On the drawcords we did dipped ends for a cleaner, simplified look. Finally branding, we did some subtle additions to launch the silhouettes with a tonal embroidery on the front then our classic woven patch label on the back pocket.
What’s next for trousers at Oaf?
The core trio will be welcoming a new icon soon…
