Here's our lazy guide to the best baked bean recipes for when your taste buds are tingling but the cupboards are looking a tad bare.
Netflix & Chilli Beans On Toast
Ingredients:
2 slices of white bread 🍞
1 tin of baked beans
40g of grated mature cheddar 🧀(Violife cheese slices for the vegans)
Loads of butter/plant based alternative.
1 onion, halved and sliced
½ tsp ground cumin, plus extra to serve
½ tsp ground coriander
1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions:
- Place bread into the toaster. 🍞
- Heat the oil in a pan, add the onion and gently cook for a few mins until it softens.
- Sprinkle the spices into the pan and stir briefly to toast them.
- Tip the beans into the pan, and warm through.
- Grate the cheese. 🧀
- Put the toast onto a plate, apply butter immediately for the ultimate melt.
- Pour the beans on top.
- Artfully sprinkle the cheese on top.
- Eat & enjoy the deliciousness.
I’ve Bean Thinking About Pizza All Day
Ingredients:
1 margarita pizza (refrigerated) 🍕
1 tin of baked beans
1 packet of mozzarella 🧀
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 200°C / 180°C fan oven / 400°F / gas mark 6 (pizza brands may vary).
- Remove pizza from fridge. 🍕
- Pour beans on top of pizza, be sparing, less is more on the occasion!
- Top with the mozzarella.
- Place on a baking tray, wave goodbye and place in the oven for about 15 minutes.
- Remove from the oven when the cheese has melted & the pizza is nice and hot 🔥
- Stare 👀 in amazement, then eat. 🍴
NB: Do not eat in the presence of actual Italians for fear of very disapproving looks.
Jacket Couch Potato
Ingredients:
1 large jacket potato 🥔
1 tin of baked beans
1 tsp vegetable oil
40g of grated mature cheddar 🧀
Optional: Serious cheese addiction
Instructions:
- Set the oven to 200°C / 180°C fan oven / 400°F / gas mark 6.
- Wash the potatoes (20 seconds minimum obvs.) and use a fork to prick holes all over.
- Lather your potato in a teaspoon of oil.
- Put your potato on a foil covered tray in the oven and cook for between 1¼ and 1½ hours, until it’s beautifully crispy.
- Grate the cheese. Lots of it. 🤤
- Heat beans on the hob for 3 - 4 mins stirring constantly.
- Cut the potatoes in half, spoon the warm baked beans over the top and then sprinkle on the cheese.
- Enjoy hot & melty 🍽
The Lazy Loafie Beans & Cheese Toastie
Ingredients:
2 slices of white bread 🍞
1 tin of baked beans
Lots of grated cheese 🧀🧀🧀
2 tsps butter
Optional: Stretchy waist pants for comfort
Instructions:
- Butter each slice of bread.
- Grate the cheese.
- Place half of the grated cheese onto 1 slice of bread. Make sure the butter side is on the outside.
- Use a fork to add the baked beans on top of the cheese. Go easy with the sauce. No one likes a soggy toastie.
- Top with the other slice of bread to make a sandwich. 🥪
- Pan fry on each side until golden.
- Marvel in the gooey oozey wonder.
- EAT.👅
Baked Beany Quarantini
Makes 2
Ingredients:
1 large handful of ice
100ml vodka
500ml baked bean sauce
1 tbsp lemon juice, plus 2 slices to serve 🍋
A few shakes Worcestershire sauce
A few shakes Tabasco
1 pinch black pepper
2 celery sticks, to serve
6 baked beans, to serve
Instructions:
- Place the ice in a large jug.
- Measure out the vodka, beans sauce & lemon juice and pour straight over the ice.
- Add 3 shakes of Worcestershire sauce & tabasco.
- Add a pinch of pepper & stir.
- Strain the cocktail into 2 glasses, add in a celery stick & lemon wedge.
- Carefully place 3 beans into the glass & voila!
- Sing ‘I’m a beanie in a bottle baby’ & drink! (if you’re brave) 🍹
